Family

Last week one of my baby cousins said "I'm coming to Chicago to play soccer. You should come!" After a few days of figuring out where in Chicago they would be playing and that it wasn't actually in Chicago but somewhere about 1.5 hrs away and some previously scheduled commitments I thought I couldn't make it happen. But then Saturday morning I changed my mind and decided to skip out early on something and see if I could make it. It's her senior year. I don't see her very often. What's four hours on the road to show a little familial support? I hit traffic on the way there and was running about an hour late. Thankfully they were running late too. Also? She has a broken knee. So she played about five minutes at the very end when they were clearly going to lose the match. However, I think I managed to get some good photos.

I dread tomorrow...

Kind of.

It's the beginning of the fall semester. I love the kiddos coming back. A school doesn't exist without students. Mind you, my students have been around all summer long.

But tomorrow I teach the first session of a new to me class. And my syllabus isn't finished. And I haven't finished my lecture notes. And it's 11:30. Class doesn't start until 6 though so I've got some time.

Thrifting Thursday

I'm having a hard time staying asleep beyond 7 am these days. Which is not good when you go to bed at 1. So I've been working on baby quilts. And drinking coffee at home (instead of at work).

I also got a hankering to photograph my vintage purses, all found while thrifting. You may remember the yellow purse that is one of the most recent additions to the collection. This lovely gal is the purse I bought at the same time. She's stately and classic. The style is a bit different from most of my vintage purses in that there is a flap that folds over the top. The gold hardware allows that front strap to fold down some for easier accessibility. Inside was the original Saks mirror and matching coin purse.
I'll try to post a different purse every week for Thrifting Thursdays. And then? Well, as you know, I have plenty more thrifting finds that I could share.

Not So Wordless Wednesday

I am in a frenzy of quilt making these days. 4 baby quilts in process looks a little like this...

Sanctuary

I went with a friend to the botanic gardens on Sunday. It was a very sunny and stormy day. We wandered from space to space learning and remembering the names of various plants.

They have some lovely weeping willows. I love weeping willows all graceful and swaying with the wind. I love the way they bend down to touch the earth or other plants as if to give a gentle caress. I love the way they invite you in to their space as if to say "Please, join me. Sit under my branches and be still."

Home Run

A few months ago I saw this skirt and it made me think of one of my little friends. I got to deliver it and her little brother's quilt (finally!) last week.
She's a fan of the dancing. She has little tap shoes that her mom found at a second-hand store and she loves to do shows for folks. I thought the skirt might just be a fun thing to dance in.

I think we've got a winner.
