I cannot tell if I have been a good Chicagoan or a bad Chicagoan. I've done some very Chicago-y things lately. Saturday I went to Navy Pier and met a couple of friends to celebrate a birthday. Navy Pier tends to be on my short list of things NOT to do in Chicago. Unless you are going to the Chicago Shakespeare theater or a fancy shindig, it seems like a bit tourist trap.

Consequently, I have not been there in ages. But sweet Miss K. wanted to meet at a little bar there and watch the fireworks. K. and her boyfriend have both had training at Second City and she is a funny, funny lady. Also, her friends are very funny. I laughed uproariously. It was a good time.

Last night another friend had a play at the Steppenwolf Theater, a well respected company here in Chicago. It was her final project for her MFA and it was really good.

On the other hand, I haven't been to any of the downtown concerts yet. And that is really tragic as downtown, outdoor concerts are one of the best parts of summer in Chicago.

Also, I really, really, really want to dye my hair purple or red or something unnatural. I might do it for the last week of my class. I think I need to do it before the new boss starts so that he's used to the idea. I guess it's probably just the right attitude of acting as if it was no big deal, eh?
