A little something for me

It's crazy time at work. I was up near WI yesterday to meet with new students. I've worked late every night this week and I'll work tomorrow. I usually enjoy the end of madness the first day of classes brings except that the second day of classes means I'll be debuting as a college instructor. Who's in charge around here? I have no business in the classroom as an instructor!

But the enormous vat of food grade diatomaceous earth that I ordered has finally arrived. What I had previously bought was not food grade and not super safe for the cat so I stopped dusting with that and ordered the right kind. Guess what I'll be doing tonight? Just in time for the latest heat wave!Since I've tossed most of my shoes I bought a few new pairs. Silver shoes. They are awesome. These are a bit less sparkly than the sequin ones that I loved so much. Also from Target. I bought a red pair too. Who needs black shoes? Not me apparently as I just tossed my last pair in the trash a few nights ago.
I stopped at the Baha'i Temple last night on my way home from work. Sure, it made the commute a little longer but they have gorgeous gardens and reflection ponds and it's just so serene and beautiful and instills a good sense of peace in my heart.
And Leo, as some of you may know via Facebook, brought me a gift a few nights ago. Well, he brought me another last night. Apparently he needs something to chase since Judah is gone. Lucky me. I had a dream this morning that I woke up on a bed (yeah, haven't actually slept in a bed for about a month and a half) surround by little mouse bits, paws, tails, etc. Getting him to drop his kill is the hard part. He just doesn't know what to do with it and wanders around a bit either unsure of where to drop it or unwilling to let it go. I'm slightly terrified that he'll catch one while I'm asleep one night and then drop it on my face *shudder* but I praise him to the skies and tell him he's a good kitty and give him a good petting. While flushing a dead mouse down the toilet. I should probably add treats to that routine. Tangible reward beyond the verbal and physical praise.

I can't help but feel a wee bit overwhelmed. But hey, I'm not without hope and that, my friends, is good.

So here's the situation

Leo is with me at work again. Actually, we'll probably be heading home soon. The apartment is being sprayed yet again.

You may be wondering "Why all the spraying Hannita?" And if you're squeamish you should not read further or do a search on the subject that I'm about to bring up.

I discovered 2.5 weeks ago that I had bed bugs. Which, if you don't know, are about the hardest type of bugs to get rid of. There is a significant increase in the number of people who report having them, particularly in big cities. So, I've been washing clothes and sticking them in giant ziploc bags. I've had to empty my drawers and closets. I've spent hundreds of dollars on mattress and pillow encasements and DIY solutions to getting rid of these things. I'm sleeping in the living room right now but will move back to the bedroom in a few days now that the bed has been sprayed well a second time.

Here's the good and bad. Good - I am purging like I've never purged before. Clothes, shoes, stuff, all going out the dumpster. Good - I don't have to pay for the pest control guy to come. The building owner is paying for it. Bad - I'm living out of giant ziploc bags. They cover my living room floor. Bad - The guy doing the pest control seems to not really know what he's doing. He's only spraying chemical and not making recommendations as to what I can do to help him along. He was very pleased that I've been putting diatomaceous earth out but didn't recommend it when he initially came but is encouraging me to do this again after the spray dries. Bad - did I mention I'm spending crazy money on this shit? Because I am. But as soon as I know these bugs are gone I'm getting my ass out of there. Except that that takes money. Yeah.

Welcome to my life right now. It's not so much fun.

Avoidance

It's go time for the job. The new semester begins at the end of the month.
Eep!
I start teaching at the end of the month.
EEEEEP!!!
We're running three sections of the class. My class? Has about twenty folks already enrolled. At some point I should read the books that we're supposed to teach, eh?

But right now, it's Shark Week. Those great white sharks are really big.

And the last two weeks of So You Think You Can Dance. I love good dancing. I don't really care about the stories, I just want to see the dancing.

Anything y'all are avoiding?
